Commenting ahead of the meeting of the Eurogroup, Greece and IMF on Thursday 15 June, Sarah-Jayne Clifton, Director of the Jubilee Debt Campaign, said:
“If it signs up to the failing austerity programme in Greece, the IMF will effectively be endorsing more precarity, more insecurity, and more poverty for Greek citizens. Wages, pensions and public services have already been cut to the bone. Debt cancellation is the only way out of this debt-austerity trap, but the Fund will lose any leverage it has to push for debt relief if it endorses this unjust, failing deal.”
