Where to go for debt advice and mental health support

Debt Justice is focused on debt campaigning and advocacy. Unfortunately we cannot provide debt advice. If you are facing personal debt issues, we recommend getting in touch with one of the following free services, who will be able to help.

Citizen’s Advice is a network of independent charities offering confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person. Find their contact information via their website: www.citizensadvice.org.uk

StepChange recommend ways to deal with your debts, based on your personal situation. Call: 0800 138 1111 or visit: www.stepchange.org

National Debtline can give you all the help and support you need to deal with your debts yourself. Call: 0808 808 4000 or visit: www.nationaldebtline.org

You can also search for a free and independent advice agency in your community at Advice Local, Community Money Advice, Christians Against Poverty and Turn 2 Us.

Debt Camel doesn’t provide individual advice, but it has free template letters and useful guides: www.debtcamel.co.uk/

Advice NI is part of the independent advice network and provides debt advice in Northern Ireland: https://www.adviceni.net/

Mental health support

Debt can take a toll on your mental health so if you need support you can find advice on the MindRethink or Mental Health Foundation websites, or on the NHS website.

For 24-hour support you can also call the Samaritans on 116 123 or text SHOUT to 85258.

If you are worried that you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.
